Anatomy and physiology are essential subjects in all courses and examinations for beauty therapists. However, nearly all the books used for training these subjects are written mainly for the medical profession and only a fraction of the texts is required by students and teachers of beauty therapy   Fortunately, Rae Leibowitz is not only a medical practitioner, but also a qualified beauty therapist with a CIDESCO diploma. Dr. Leibowitz has taught in the field of beauty therapy for over ten years. She is a member of the CIDESCO Education Comittee and has been a CIDESCO examiner since 1992. She is well qualified, therefore, to write about the structure and function of the body in a way which is relevant to beauty therapists. As she says in her introduction, “Your knowledge of the body will become an integrated part of everything you do, helping you to make good, rational, treatment choices for your clients based on real understanding, rather than doing things parrot fashion, simply because that is what you were taught!”. As with other books written by Dr Leibowitz, this is predominantly a woorkbook for students rather than a comprehensive reference book on the subject. Students will undoubtedly find the book follows a logical sequence and easy to read. The many diagrams are clear and all chapters have a summary outline to be completed by the reader. In addition, at the end of each chapter, there are many crosswords that make testing a fun activity which aids incidental learning and reinforces the correct use of terminology.

This book will surely prove to be a bestseller and is to be highly recommended.

It is seldom that one hears of a doctor becoming a qualified beauty therapist. Rae Leibowitz is one of this rare breed.

Dr. Leibowitz has taught in the field of beauty therapy for the past six years and now resides in Australia where she runs a clinic.

Her qualifications and experience as a doctor and beauty therapist make her ideal to write on specialised subjects of value to students and teachers.
